Student Ambassadors

Throughout the nation, over 350 of our Colleges of Distinction are helping students learn, grow, and succeed with individual-focused services and curricula. Now, the students who have benefitted from these schools are reaching out to encourage prospective college-goers. By featuring the experiences of current students, Colleges of Distinction is giving prospective students a way to know what they’re jumping into—rather than being the first off the dock.

Our member schools are invited to recommend that a student participate in the Colleges of Distinction Student Ambassador program. Students will be tasked writing a piece to be published on the Advice for Students section of our website.

Olivia O’Malley is a senior at University of the Cumberlands where she is completing a double major in History and Political Science with a minor in Communication Arts. She has been involved with local historical societies, College Republicans, and residence life during her time at UC. O’Malley is president of the Upsilon-Upsilon chapter of Phi Alpha Theta and a residence hall director.

Hannah Scott is a senior at Anderson University from Goshen, Indiana, double majoring in public relations and political science. Scott is the Senior Account Manager at Fifth Street Communications®, a member of the Admissions Student Ambassador team, and vice president for her PRSSA chapter. She has also been involved in various clubs during her time at AU, such as College Democrats and Adelphi, the campus social and service club.

James Yates is a non-traditional student in his junior year pursuing degrees in Church Planting, Youth and Family Ministry, and Human Services at the University of the Cumberlands. Yates is a pastor of a church in Williamsburg, Kentucky and hopes to use his degrees to connect the local church with the professional helping field. He loves Jesus, his wife, the local church, Kansas City sports, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Callie Gargano is a senior at Schreiner University studying Accounting and Finance. She is involved on campus, including being the Ambassador Coordinator, tutoring business subjects for Learning Support Services, and being a part of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. She is also a Hatton Sumners Scholar and a member of the Alpha Chi and Sigma Beta Delta honors societies. She is excited about starting her third internship this summer.

Harrison Conner grew up in Franklin, North Carolina where he loved spending time with friends, playing sports, and succeeding in school. His passion for sports led him to compete in at the collegiate level in cross country and track and field for Western Carolina University where he is currently a senior. He will graduate in May with a degree in Pre-Medical Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He plans to attend East Carolina University as a Dental Medicine student with the goal to practice dentistry in his hometown.

Anna Perrenoud is a senior at Northwestern College majoring in public relations and marketing. Perrenoud is a member of the women’s golf team, an editor for the campus newspaper and the marketing coordinator for Northwestern’s campus ministry. She is finishing her college career with an internship in Northwestern’s marketing office and is looking forward to moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, after graduation.

Glory Turnbull is sophomore at St. Mary’s University in Texas, studying both a B.A. in Art Education and M.A. in Public History. Glory is a member of the Safe Space LGBT+ club and ECO club as well as a tour guide with the Office of Admissions. They hope to pursue a Ph.D. before the age of 25.

Daniel is from Marlton, NJ, and attends Georgian Court University. He is currently a junior studying history and secondary education. He is involved with many clubs and organizations on campus as well as several honors societies. Last semester, he studied abroad in London where he was able to develop his sense of independence as well as how to navigate in several foreign cities. The best place he visited while abroad was Scotland. He says that, while he also traveled to Switzerland and climbed the magnificent mountains, Scotland was the most beautiful place he has ever been and where he had the most fun. Additionally, he has spoken at several conferences involving gender, race, and slavery. As these subjects are his area of interest, he chose to write about Angela Davis for the final history paper for his degree. And although he graduates next year, he will always be a lion!

Liz Jacques is from Easley, South Carolina, and is a sophomore at Gardner-Webb University. She is enrolled in the Nursing program at the Hunt School of Nursing. Liz is proud to be in the Honors Student Association and is an active leader in Young Life ministry in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Liz works in the office of Undergraduate Admissions as a Creative Student Recruitment Ambassador, writing blogs and social media posts for the university. She enjoys helping out with event days and reaching out to prospective students and families. Liz also works as a nursing assistant at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, South Carolina, and spends her free time in a coffee shop catching up with an old friend or writing for herself.

He is a NOAA Hollings Scholar and currently running for President of Florida College Democrats.

Maya Jingles is a senior Sociology Major and Psychology Minor at Purchase College. She works at her on campus convenience store and as an Admissions Ambassador, where she provides campus tours and manages their social media accounts. Maya is also on the Black Graduation  and Academic Standards and Awards Committees. After graduation, Maya will be joining the Children’s Corps where she will work as a caseworker for two years before getting her Masters in Social Work.
