The word “STEM” is becoming an increasingly popular buzzword for many students, as the demand for this skill set only continues to rise across many industries. So what’s the big deal?

STEM degrees encompass those that fall under the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields, hence the acronym. For over a decade, the U.S. Department of Labor has recognized an exponentially growing need for STEM-related training. STEM is key to innovation and job creation in the United States today, making it a highly sought career path for college students.

If you were to pursue a career in Science, you might consider being a Biochemist, an Environmental Scientist, a Geoscientist, a Chemist, or even a teacher. But that’s just scratching the surface; there are many different careers you can pursue with a Science degree.

Some career paths related to Technology include a Computer Systems Analyst, a Software Developer, a Web Developer, and more. This field is not limited in scope, so you can choose between various professions.

There are so many different types of professions to choose from as an Engineer, too! From a Civil or Mechanical Engineer to a Computer or Biomedical Engineer, your possible career paths are only getting more dynamic.

If you were to pursue a career in Mathematics, you might consider being a Statistician, a Mathematician, an Actuary or other profession that requires mathematical proficiency, of which there are plenty! The undergraduate courses you might take can range from engineering mathematics, probability, and statistics for the sciences, so it goes without saying that a degree in this field is far reaching.

There are many well-known companies that are hiring STEM major graduates, including BlackRock, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Avanade, Lockheed Martin, Citibank, EY, and Dell. Many young college students are leaning toward majoring in STEM studies because of the many possible job prospects associated with them. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics play a huge role in our everyday lives, and that’s not going to change anytime soon!

With so many students seeking STEM degrees, the number of scholarships aimed at them is generous and far reaching. We’ve compiled a list of  scholarships made especially for students at the forefront of innovation and progress for 2020.
