The program also incorporates weekly group meetings among the participants to dive into topics such as research ethics, preparing for graduate school, and developing scholarly presentations.

HELIOS
UW-Platteville’s Helios Program offers a new way to engage students in collaborative learning within a tight-knit cohort of peers. Students can earn their Certificate of Integrated Liberal Arts by completing coursework focused on one of two thematic clusters: environment and sustainability or law and conflict resolution.
This is an engaging way to complete your general education requirements, all while working toward a certificate that showcases your well-rounded understanding of an interdisciplinary topic. You can engage in a mix of learning inside and outside of the classroom by attending cultural programs, lectures, social activities, and through project-based learning and independent research.
SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY
Service-learning projects are an important component of the hands-on education that UW-Platteville provides. They can be found across many academic programs and majors at the university. Students in the School of Education, for example, frequently organize Family Math and Reading Nights for local school districts. UW-Platteville has been nationally recognized for its Adaptive Aquatics Program, which partners with local K-12 schools to bring students with disabilities to campus to receive specialized swim instruction from Health and Human performance students.
LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITIES
UW-Platteville offers two Living-Learning Communities for students who want to enrich their academic experience in and out of the classroom.
- The Innovation Living Learning Community is for students focused on making new innovations. Any UW-Platteville major can participate. Future innovators will have access to tools and resources to make their ideas a reality, including the new 20,000-square-foot Huff Family Innovation Center in Sesquicentennial Hall.
- The Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Living Learning Community provides an academic and personal support network for students. Members are invited to a wide variety of social and professional events.

READY FOR ANYTHING
With a small faculty-to-student ratio, students receive personalized attention and opportunities that set them apart. From as early as their first year on campus, they can collaborate with faculty on research and gain industry connections—opportunities that aren’t available to students at larger schools. This, combined with access to robust internship and co-op programs throughout their education, contributes to our graduates’ 96% placement rate and average starting salary of $66,000.
CAPSTONES
UW-Platteville offers a number of capstone courses and projects across majors. Just one example is the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science’s Senior Design Projects. Here, a group of students work with an industry partner to solve real problems or create new products. Under the supervision of both an industry advisor and UW-Platteville faculty member, students will explore all aspects of the project, from creative development and project management to engineering ethics, product safety, copyrights and patents, robust engineering, and more. At the end of the semester, students present their results to their industry sponsor, many of whom have in the past adopted and implemented concepts from the project. Students also showcase their projects through formal presentations and posters at the Senior Design Open House.
INTERNSHIPS
Internships or co-ops are strongly encouraged for all students at UW-Platteville and are required by some programs. Prior to graduation, more than 80% of UW-Platteville students have completed an internship, co-op, student teaching, or field experience. 88% of those students were paid for their experience, while 69% earned course credit for the experience. 41% of those students ended up working for the same employer after graduation. No matter the field, your education at UW-Platteville can be easily translated to real-world impact.
