College Highlights
“At UE, science-focused majors get to work in the labs starting freshman year. In one of my classes, we took on a research project involving bacteriophage, or viruses that infect bacteria. Each of us took soil samples throughout the Evansville area, then isolated a unique phage species from the samples to catalog and publish on a national database. Through this project I realized my passion for research. This experience early in my college career allowed me to explore the different avenues of science and choose to become a physician assistant.” – Katie Brown, Pre-Physician Assistant
At UE, students are challenged both inside and outside of the classroom with opportunities to participate in rigorous undergraduate research and hands-on projects with our faculty. Students have the opportunity to study abroad at Harlaxton College and stay on track to graduate in four years.
The core purpose of education is to provide life-transforming educational experiences from changemaking, undergraduate research or study abroad that prepares students to engage the world as informed, ethical, and productive citizens. We strive to be an innovative institution of global reach and reputation whose students develop the knowledge and skills, vision and wisdom to lead and to serve.

University of Evansville students are welcomed into an atmosphere of higher education unlike any other institution. The University’s mission of ensuring that students are equipped to think critically, act bravely, serve responsibly, and live meaningfully in a changing world is lived out through a personalized and creative approach to learning. Each student has the benefit of dedicated faculty members who work closely to ensure success. Through hands-on learning in the classroom that rivals other institutions, students gain skills and experience that lifts them above the crowd when it’s time to enter the workforce. Undergraduates work alongside faculty members to conduct cutting edge research in a variety of fields – an experience that is unusual at the undergraduate level for most institutions, but is a regular experience for UE students.
“Through research and internship experiences, students are assured to get the hands-on experiences to give them an advantage.” – Lora Becker, PhD, professor of psychology
The University also empowers students to be innovative problem solvers, always approaching challenges with the mindset of “what if?” Through the Center for Innovation and Change, students can join or create a ChangeLab course. ChangeLab is a course where students can earn academic credit while participating on a team that is working to solve a challenge in the community. Examples of recent ChangeLabs include establishing a thriving music program in a local charter school, creating a solution for the unhoused by building tiny homes, funding and installing solar panels on a community center, and many more. Students in ChangeLab courses are changing the world right now, and earning academic credit at the same time.

“Anyone who wants to make some serious changes around them can do it, they just don’t have access to the opportunities, and that’s where the university comes in. Never in a million years would I have guessed I would be doing the things I’m doing, having the conversations I’m having, and going to the places I’m going because of my background. Yet here I am, doing all these crazy things, and it was because of one chance meeting in a classroom.” – Robert Lopez, Major: Ethics and Social Change
On a campus like the University of Evansville, you are never more than a few feet away from a good friend. One of the aspects that many students enjoy is knowing that as you walk across campus, you’ll see someone you know. Even as a freshman in a new place, you’ll find community right away.
Through events like PurplePalooza (an annual outdoor party in the spring), Bike Race, weekly movie nights, pop-up food truck events, intramural and Division I sporting events, and much more, students have many ways to get involved with the UE community and make lifelong friendships.
The highly respected Department of Theatre stages four shows each year, to which students have access to free tickets. The UE Music Conservatory also presents weekly recitals of students, faculty, and guest artists that are free to attend as well.

University of Evansville graduates truly stand out above the crowd as they prepare to enter the workforce. This is made possible through real-life experiences that can start happening freshman year in many cases.
