A COMPLETE EDUCATION AT ST. JOSEPH’S UNIVERSITY
There are some things that just can’t be learned in a classroom. At St. Joseph’s University, New York, students are encouraged to take part in fieldwork, research, internships, and study abroad trips prior to graduation.
For instance, child study majors at St. Joseph’s don’t wait until senior year to become student teachers; they start logging teaching hours starting freshman year and graduate with four solid years of classroom experience. Recreation majors all complete internships at local health or recreation facilities; art students learn to analyze and appreciate art by visiting world-famous museums; history students explore the architecture of hidden NYC neighborhoods; and biology students conduct research with their professors.
STUDY ABROAD
Through the Office of Global Studies at St. Joseph’s University, students are given the opportunity to travel, earning credits that enhance their education. Abroad, students can improve their foreign language skills and boost their marketability when the time comes to choose a career. Most recently, St. Joseph’s students have studied in Australia, Bangkok, Budapest, Ecuador, Greece, Italy, Japan, London, Paris, Prague, Spain, and Vienna.
THE OFFICE OF MULTICULTURAL STUDENT LIFE
The Office of Multicultural Student Life provides students with an opportunity to celebrate and embrace the diversity of the world through a variety of educational programs, including off-campus trips, interactive workshops, and events. The Office has sponsored trips to diversity-related conferences, Broadway plays, and even the monumental inauguration of President Barack Obama. In addition, students are encouraged to discuss current events and other hot topics that educate and empower them to express, question, learn, and transform. All of these experiences promote and support their academic, personal, and professional growth.

AN EDUCATION WITH VARIETY
Students shouldn’t come to college only to learn what kind of work they want to do. College graduates must also become informed citizens whose lives have real meaning. St. Joseph’s University strives to open the minds and hearts of students, pushing them to be curious, optimistic, and courageous risk-takers.
In support of this mission, St. Joseph’s University introduced a core curriculum in 2011 that groups courses into five broad thematic areas to offer students an interdisciplinary approach to their studies. This ensures that students become fluent communicators, familiar with new technologies and experienced in navigating the world through service, internships, cultural opportunities on campus, and study abroad. In 2015, the University launched SJU Online, a fully online learning community that offers more than 20 online degree programs.

St. Joseph’s offers more than 50 degree programs that include relevant programs in education, health care, and criminal justice as well as fast-track options that lead to advanced degrees in accounting and computer science. Building on the strength of the University’s renowned undergraduate programs, St. Joseph’s also offers premier graduate programs as well. STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Through lively campus social and cultural events, athletic competitions, community service, and internships, students at St. Joseph’s are encouraged to make essential personal and professional connections. St. Joseph’s offers campus clubs, organizations, and Division III sports.
COMMON HOUR
Every day, St. Joseph’s students take a break for Common Hour from 12:30-1:30 p.m., gathering for both planned activities and spontaneous fun. This is their time to listen to guest lecturers, debate contemporary issues, enjoy live music and dance performances, and mingle with fellow students over lunch.
FITNESS CENTER
St. Joseph’s recently established a 43,000-square-foot athletic center at SJU Brooklyn that includes basketball and volleyball courts, a dance studio, and a fitness center. At SJU Long Island, an outdoor multi-sport complex is located on 24-acres of land just one mile east of the main campus. The Outdoor Field Complex includes playing fields for lacrosse, soccer, baseball, and softball, as well as tennis courts and a running/walking track.
RESIDENCE LIFE
SJU Brooklyn offers a vibrant residential experience through its partnership with Educational Housing Services. The residence hall is located a short distance from campus, and the University provides a free shuttle to transport students between the residence hall and the campus.
SCHOOL LOCATION
SJU Brooklyn is at the center of one of the nation’s most diverse academic and cultural cities. With Manhattan just over the Brooklyn Bridge, students have quick and easy access to such world-renowned institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center. SJU Brooklyn includes the Dillon Child Study Center, McEntegart Hall Library, and the 40,000-square-foot Hill Center that features a 270-seat, NCAA-regulation basketball and volleyball court, dance studio, and fully equipped sports medicine suite.
SJU Long Island is located on a 32-acre lakeside campus in Patchogue, which includes the Clare Rose Playhouse, Callahan Library, John A. Danzi Athletic Center, Business Technology Center, and a state-of-the-art 24.8-acre outdoor field complex that is home to several of SJU Long Island’s NCAA Division III teams. SJU Long Island is just minutes from the Great South Bay, L.I. MacArthur Airport, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Orient Point, and many of Long Island’s ocean beaches. New York City is just a short ride away.
ATHLETICS
SJU Long Island sponsors 20 NCAA Division III programs. As a premier member of the Skyline Conference (the Universit has earned the conference’s Presidents Cup for best overall athletics program six times in 11 years!) SJU athletes are among the top performers on the field and in the classroom. On campus, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy athletic competition, foster personal fitness, and engage in recreational activities in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center. The facility features a 25-yard heated swimming pool, a fitness center, an aerobics/dance studio, basketball and volleyball courts, and an elevated track. In addition, SJU Long Island’s teams benefit from an outdoor athletic complex that includes lighted baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, a soccer/lacrosse field, and a 400-meter track.
At SJU Brooklyn, 14 NCAA DIII athletic teams are proudly sponsored with a championship mentality. Its programs have steadily improved since joining the NCAA ranks and becoming a member of the Skyline Conference in recent years. Players and fans alike are immersed in a culture of success, one with a reputation of developing students who succeed on the field and court as well as in the classroom and community. It all comes together at The Hill Center, a 43,000-square-foot facility that features a 270-seat NCAA-regulation basketball/volleyball court, a fully equipped fitness center, locker rooms, an athletic training room, and additional space for receptions and other campus events.
SJU’s student-athletes continue to shine in the classroom. Student-athletes are named to the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll each year; several have received regional and national academic awards and recognitions.

Through individual attention and interactive advisement, St. Joseph’s meets students where they are academically. CAREER SERVICES
The Office of Career Development and Engagement assists students with job searches, internship opportunities, and career assessment tools. The mission of the Office of Career Development and Engagement is to foster career development that educates, inspires confidence, and empowers students and alumni to clarify and attain their goals. The Office’s vision is to assist students and alumni in discovering and exploring possibilities and develop the strategies necessary to make mindful career decisions.
The counselors in the Office of Career Development and Engagement provide students and alumni with a strong foundation upon which to learn about their skills and interests. Counselors help students with résumés, cover letters, interviews, and personal statements. Students are also given assistance in identifying and exploring career options that are of interest.
ALUMNI SUCCESS
St. Joseph’s University’s 38,000 alumni have gone on to successful careers in their chosen fields or continued their education in graduate school at impressive institutions such as Rutgers, Albany Law School, New York University, Columbia University, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
St. Joseph’s University is a selective institution. Applicants are evaluated on an individual basis. The University enrolls students who are academically talented and diverse. Successful admissions candidates typically have a high school diploma or its equivalent or postsecondary transcripts; a personal statement or essay of recommendation; standardized test scores that demonstrate the promise of success in college-level courses; and two letters of recommendation and a personal essay.
SJU is committed to providing quality education while maintaining the one of lowest private college tuition rates in New York. To supplement the cost of education, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs are some of the financial aid options available. Currently, more than 80 percent of SJU students receive some form of financial aid. SJU offers generous scholarships and financial aid packages to students who qualify.
