Undergraduate students at St. Cloud State University are engaged in faculty research in a variety of subjects. In the sciences, students work with professors to study deepwater fish biology and diabetes; Computer Engineering professors engage students in real-world problem solving for Minnesota companies tackling embedded systems problems; and the SCSU Survey conducts statewide surveys for elections, current events, and other important issues with students engaged in collecting and analyzing survey data. Student researchers assist in writing publications based on their research and present at conferences nationwide.

EDUCATION ABROAD
St. Cloud State offers education abroad opportunities throughout the world that can complement a student’s major and enable them to gain skills, knowledge, and marketability. Programs range from short-term summer or spring break trips to semester-long experiences living at Alnwick Castle in Alnwick, England.

Great Teaching

FIRST-YEAR SEMINARS AND EXPERIENCES
St. Cloud State University engages students in the first year through a variety of experiences tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each student. First-Year Seminars are courses designed to help first-year students transition successfully into the rigor and opportunities of higher education. They are small classes taught by engaging faculty from across campus who encourage students to tackle big ideas like cultural intelligence, cultivating peace, and everyday practices that contribute to and challenge marginalization.

First-Year Education Abroad opportunities offer students a unique opportunity to study internationally during the spring term of their first year. The Honors Program is a selective program that provides an interdisciplinary curriculum for a student’s general education experience with small classes and unique out of class opportunities in a community-based environment.

Vibrant Communities

SCHOOL LOCATION
St. Cloud State University is located in central Minnesota on the banks of the Mississippi River. St. Cloud is a vibrant community of 65,000 at the heart of Minnesota’s agricultural region. St. Cloud is known historically for its granite quarries and today is home to manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and business and financial services. The university is 65 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul, where students find shopping and entertainment opportunities. St. Cloud offers many outdoor recreation opportunities within walking distance from campus, such as the Beaver Island trail, Munsigner Clemens Gardens, and Lake George, where many festivals and concerts are held throughout the summer.

ATHLETICS
St. Cloud State Athletics manages more than 350 student-athletes in 15 Division II teams and two Division I hockey teams (men’s and women’s). St. Cloud State sports fans wear red and black with pride as they cheer on the Huskies. The Huskies find success on and off the field. The St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey team advanced to their first-ever Division I National Championship game in 2021, while the Wrestling team won their third consecutive Division II National Championship and fifth overall. In addition, the Women’s Basketball team reached the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second straight season in 2021, while 13 student-athletes from the wrestling, swim & dive, women’s basketball, track & field, and softball programs earned All-America honors.
