DIVERSITY INITIATIVES
Louisiana Tech University is committed to improving the diversity of its student body. As outlined in the TECH2020 strategic vision, the university’s first priority is to create a large and diverse group of students. One resource created for this vision is the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which offers access to conferences, workshops, student organizations, scholarships, and more. For black male students, the African-American Male Initiative provides a space on campus to feel welcome and supported as they journey through college.

In the First-Year Experience, students are shown their campus resources and offered tips for academic success. Students can also take advantage of Blue Fire Mentors, experts in the First-Year Experience who act as guides throughout freshman year.
WRITING-INTENSIVE COURSES
Louisiana Tech understands most students leave academic writing behind after graduation, so many of Louisiana Tech’s fields of study offer the option for industry-specific writing courses. These practical approaches to communication skill-building classes prepare students for the terminology, style, and demands of their future careers. Whether they want to take the traditional academic writing path or prepare for writing in the workforce, students can cater their curriculum to their interests.
SERVICE-LEARNING
Louisiana Tech is a leader in service-learning, a style of education that helps students learn more about themselves and their community through philanthropic work. The Center for Academic and Professional Development makes it easy for any professor to incorporate service in their courses. Some examples of how service has supplemented classwork include community clean-up in Ruston, construction in Honduras, and more. Many majors, including nursing, even offer major-specific service-learning opportunities that allow students to do good while practicing their skills. Students have the opportunity to teach aspiring photographers, keep Ruston informed of important community news, and more.
SCHOOL LOCATION
Louisiana Tech is located in Ruston, Louisiana, a college town with the atmosphere to prove it. There are plenty of places to eat and shop in the historic downtown district, beautiful scenery to experience in a hike across Lincoln Parish Park, and incredible performances for the biggest local and national musicians. Ruston may be a small town, but its possibility for adventure is enormous.

SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECTS
Many areas of study at Louisiana Tech University require a senior capstone project or practicum—the culmination of everything a student has learned in their time on campus. Students of every concentration take a semester to see a project from start to finish with their group, understanding project management and the requirements of a modern workplace. Students learn from historic examples and form their own final presentations as they prepare for life beyond college.
INTERNSHIPS
Louisiana Tech University offers a series of options for students who seek to complement their coursework with experiential learning and internships. For students in medical and educational majors, local hospitals, offices, and schools serve as their classroom. For other students, the Career Center offers a number of tools to prepare for internships through résumé review, interview training, and a job board. Tech provides the resources for students to take their learning outside of the classroom and into the professional world.
