UNIVERSITY RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
Each spring, undergraduate and graduate students all have the opportunity to present their research, scholarship, and creative projects at the annual Research Symposium. Participation in this university-hosted event allows students to practice presenting to an audience, networking, and understanding the overall process of high-quality research.
CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND SERVICE-LEARNING
Illinois State offers students a variety of opportunities to integrate civic engagement into their academic experience through such programs as the Minor in Civic Engagement and Responsibility, Ethnic Studies Minor, and Urban Studies Minor. Students can also apply to the Undergraduate Fellow Program to research social issues affecting different communities.

The Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline and Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development prepares students to be be active educators in both the local and global community. Such incredible programs and resources give education majors the chance to student teach as lower-income schools and any other student with a drive to serve to apply their knowledge to effecting tangible change.
Illinois State thrives with over 400 student organizations, including the Student Government Association.
FESTIVAL ISU
Every fall, Illinois State holds a showcase to spotlight over 300 student organizations and 100 local businesses. The event takes place at the Quad to welcome students back to campus and introduce the community to all the great things happening on and around campus. The festival is a great way for incoming students to explore their interests, join clubs, and make new friends.
RESEARCH AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS
The research and sponsored programs initiative provides students guidance throughout their individual research proposal process. RSP staff evaluate proposals and help refine them to make them more competitive for a higher chance of selection for funding. Regardless of a student’s goals for the future, extra projects like independent research prove to be excellent additions to a résumé. It’s no wonder why Illinois State graduates are not only highly accepted in the workforce, but highly sought after.
