Engaged Students

Hands-on work is built into the undergraduate plan from year one. Courses fold in labs, practicums, simulations, internships, and community partnerships so students practice their craft in real settings and build confidence through repeated, mentored work. Career & Calling staff help map those touchpoints across fall, spring, and summer.

Concrete examples show up across the majors. Nursing majors train in a high-fidelity Simulation Lab before stepping into multi-year clinical rotations. Education students move from methods courses into student-teaching placements around the region. Engineering pathways include a 3+2 program with Notre Dame or Trine, as well as Engineering Management on campus for students who want technical foundations plus operations and leadership. Study-abroad options range from semester programs to short Task Force trips and summer study travel.

Great Teaching

In their continual pursuit to support the success of their students, Bethel faculty have committed to a university-wide mission of innovative leadership. The issues and demands of society are changing as rapidly as ever, and it is through an up-to-date education that professors may best prepare their students for whatever life throws at them. Bethel has been sending driven faculty to leadership retreats at which they learn to shake themselves free from the rigid patterns of higher education, paving the way for new ideas and strategies to make the University a springboard for change.

Bethel University faculty embrace the fact that innovation is a messy process of trial and error that ultimately leads to bigger and better things—better ways to affect the community, better ways to learn, and better ways to live out God’s message. Bethel faculty work together across disciplines to exchange ideas and engage their students, forming new classes and programs that take Christian higher education to the next level.

Vibrant Communities

SPIRITUAL LIFE
At the core of all that Bethel does is a committed focus on each student’s spiritual development. The university is dedicated to building lives of commitment for leadership in the church and the world. Spiritual growth is nurtured at chapel (the heartbeat of Bethel) twice per week as well as in small group gatherings that plunge students deeper into their walk with God. Beyond the opportunities to grow in community through residence hall and small group Bible studies, students can also be the hands and feet of Christ through events like Bethel’s annual Service day.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Getting involved is straightforward. Bethel lists a wide spread of clubs and organizations—from the Education Club and Theatre Club to Ekomé (Black Student Fellowship) and disc golf—so there’s room to lead, perform, serve, and try new things. Global & Community Engagement keeps the calendar full with service, cross-cultural programming, and travel options.

School spirit shows up on fields and stages. The Bethel Pilots compete in the NAIA with a strong athletic tradition, while performances, worship gatherings, and campus events round out a week that balances challenge with community. The mix feels residential and close-knit, with easy access to South Bend internships, arts, and volunteer opportunities.

SCHOOL LOCATION
Bethel University is located in Mishawaka, Indiana, a short distance from the coasts of Lake Michigan and only 90 miles from the Chicago metropolitan area.

Successful Outcomes

Career prep runs alongside coursework. The Career & Calling Development team offers one-on-one coaching, résumé and interview support, and employer connections. And thanks to the university’s size and regional ties, it’s simple to turn practica, labs, and client projects into references and job offers.

Program design keeps pathways visible. Nursing’s simulation-to-clinical sequence, education’s semester-long student teaching, business and analytics projects with local companies, and engineering/management routes aligned with industry standards all build portfolios students can show recruiters and graduate programs. Add study abroad or a task-force trip, and graduates leave with work they can talk about and the wisdom that comes from real-world experience.
