Engaged Students

A STRONG START
A-State takes the first year seriously. Every incoming student participates in a first-year seminar embedded within their college or major, giving the experience an immediate sense of professional relevance. Rather than a generic introduction to college life, students get a course shaped around where they’re headed, taught by a faculty member who serves as a mentor from day one.

The first year builds toward the First-Year Experience Academic Expo, a campus-wide event in which students present original research, creative projects, and community work to an audience of peers and professors.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
A-State’s standing as a Carnegie-classified research university translates into real opportunities for undergraduates to get involved in the lab, the field, and the studio. Students have joined funded research projects as early as their first year, working alongside faculty on questions that matter, in agriculture, health sciences, engineering, and the arts. The annual Convocation of Scholars each spring gives students a formal opportunity to present their work.

Great Teaching

INVESTED FACULTY
A-State’s faculty are consistently described by students as approachable and genuinely invested. Classes are taught by instructors who hold office hours students actually use, answer emails, and stay in touch with students long after the semester ends. The university spans eight colleges covering everything from agriculture and engineering to nursing, business, liberal arts, and education, giving students access to a wide range of programs without sacrificing the personal attention that defines the A-State classroom experience.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Academic support is woven into daily campus life. Free writing assistance is available at any stage of a project, research librarians help students navigate the tools of scholarly inquiry, and advisors meet regularly with students to plan the path to their degree.

Vibrant Communities

CAMPUS LIFE
There’s no shortage of ways to get involved at A-State. Student organizations, performing arts groups, campus media, intramural leagues, Greek life, and a packed events calendar ensure that students with virtually any interest can find their people. The student union is the social heart of campus, a place where students gather between classes, catch performances, and run into their friends. Campus traditions and a strong sense of shared identity keep the community feeling cohesive even as the university continues to grow.

JONESBORO
Jonesboro is a growing city with a strong sense of character. The Arkansas Delta’s cultural heritage, outdoor recreation, and tight-knit communities give the area a distinctive identity, and the relationship between A-State and Jonesboro is a close one. For students who want the full college-town experience alongside serious academic opportunity, Jonesboro delivers.

Successful Outcomes

Career development at A-State is a four-year conversation, not a last-minute scramble. Students have access to résumé support, interview coaching, employer networking events, and job and internship postings throughout their time on campus. The university’s deep ties to regional industries in agriculture, healthcare, engineering, and business create genuine pathways into the workforce, and faculty mentors play an active role in connecting students to opportunities in their fields.
