CORE CURRICULUM
Georgia State University believes in the value that a campus-wide common curriculum provides to all students. Its core curriculum covers six essential areas: written communication and mathematics; institutional foundations; humanities, fine arts, and world languages; natural and computational sciences; social science; and foundational major-specific courses.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
The Georgia State University Honors College Undergraduate Research Program provides undergraduate students opportunities to conduct research across campus, nationally, and internationally. Students from all disciplines and levels are encouraged to seek interesting and challenging opportunities. Every year, the Georgia State Undergraduate Research Conference highlights and recognizes the groundbreaking research taking place across Georgia State’s campus.

STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS
GSU’s Office of Study Abroad Programs dedicated to helping students find study abroad opportunities that fit their interests and field of study. The office concentrates on credit-bearing programs so that every student can gain real-world experience while satisfying requirements toward their degree. Students can participate in faculty-led programs, exchange programs, international internships, and many more.

Great Teaching

THE FIRST-YEAR BOOK
All incoming freshmen receive a copy of a book for them to read by the start of their first semester. Its content will be covered all throughout every new student’s first days on campus, including a variety of programs and events related to it. The first-year book is a wonderful introduction to academic discourse and critical thinking, using a combination of coursework and extracurriculars to integrate an academic and social experience into the campus community.

FRESHMAN LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Freshman learning communities (FLC) are designed to help students acclimate to their new environment and experience the expectations of the academic and personal journey they are about to embark on. During their first semester, students participate in an FLC based on their academic interests and enjoy a support team, built-in study buddies, and the peace of mind that all the courses they take can apply to any major they choose. FLC’s are built around specific fields of interest: STEM, business, arts and humanities, policy studies, health, education, social sciences, and undeclared.

Vibrant Communities

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice of the student body at Georgia State University. Student representatives are elected by their peers to represent student interests and lobby to the university on their behalf. SGA is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the inner workings of the university, develop leadership skills, and have a voice on campus.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Getting involved in one or more of Georgia State’s diverse student organizations is a great way to connect to other students and develop leadership skills. Students can choose from over 400 student organizations that span a wide range of topics.

GREEK LIFE
Georgia State is proud to house 31 fraternities and sororities on campus. These national chapters are dedicated to upholding the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and friendship. The Greek community continues to be a strong and vibrant component of the larger university community.
