Meredith attracts strong students who participate in experiential learning throughout their four years. In fact, 97.7% of students participate in an internship, study abroad, undergraduate research, community-based learning, or another kind of applied learning.

STUDY ABROAD
Meredith offers enriching study abroad opportunities, with over a third of students studying in 33 different countries over the past five years. The Office of International Programs not only works closely with students to find the right program, but also helps navigate financial assistance options.
Meredith’s permanent study abroad location in Sansepolcro, Italy, offers students a unique semester-long international experience. In addition, recent faculty-led programs include
- Humanities programs in Italy, Switzerland, and England
- Business, child development, and interior design programs in Denmark
- Fashion programs in France
- Science field research programs in Costa Rica
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
The Undergraduate Research program at Meredith allows students to work on research projects one-on-one with a faculty member in their field. The program supports partnerships between faculty and students across all departments and may fund student travel to conferences where research is presented. Students frequently present their research at regional and national conferences.

COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING
Community-Based Learning connects classroom learning with service projects that benefit the community. Students who participate in community-based learning report strengthened academic performance, increased motivation to engage in their coursework, and a heightened awareness of issues impacting the community.
HONORS PROGRAM
The Meredith Honors Program gives students the opportunity to delve more deeply into areas of interest. Honors students complete 28 hours of Honors courses as well as an Honors senior project, which they design themselves and present in a public forum. Honors students take at least two interdisciplinary, team-taught Honors colloquia, which allow them to expand their knowledge and think about a subject through the perspective of multiple disciplines. Honors students participate in independent research, conferences, weekend trips, study abroad, and convocations.
TEACHING FELLOWS
The Meredith Teaching Fellows program offers a dynamic educational experience, enriched with opportunities to gain hands-on classroom experience, learn from education professionals, participate in study abroad, and enroll in Honors courses. Teaching Fellows participate in a superior academic program that blends the liberal arts, a major in their chosen academic field, and professional courses that lead to teacher licensure.
LEADERSHIP
Meredith students participate in programs such as the LeaderShape® Institute, Emerging Leaders Seminar Series, Sophie Lanneau Women’s Leadership Development Program, and the annual LEAD Conference. Additionally, women hold all of the more than 500 leadership positions available on campus.

FACULTY MENTORS
Meredith faculty are as passionate about teaching as they are about scholarship. Professors help students discover their strengths, academic and personal, and then develop ways to build on them. They publish articles in leading academic journals, present at global conferences, and win local, national, and international awards.

ADVISERS AND TUTORS
Advisers in Academic Advising and Career Planning present workshops on such topics as time management, study skills, academic problem solving, mid-term guidance, securing a job, and communicating with faculty. The Learning Center is free academic resource for students staffed by trained student tutors who provide assistance in study skills and in subjects across the curriculum.
IN-DEPTH, COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
Each program of study at Meredith incorporates interdisciplinary study, experiential learning, and global awareness. The Fashion Merchandising and Design program, for instance, sponsors trips to Paris, New York’s Garment District, and the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. Students in the education program select a major of their choice and earn education licensure alongside their degree. And health science students have access to the Human Performance Lab and humanities students learn from Raleigh’s archives, museums, and historic sites.
STRONG FACILITIES
The Science and Mathematics Building (SMB) and the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center are just a couple of examples of the College’s commitment to ensure students in all disciplines receive the best education modern technology allows. SMB features 80,000 square feet of learning space, including 13 dedicated research labs. The Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center features studios, graphic design labs, an art history theater, and the Frankie G. Weems Gallery.

Meredith students have the opportunity to learn and explore their strengths on a campus that is as strong as it is beautiful. The 225-acre campus features an outdoor amphitheater, seven residence halls, LEED-certified on-campus apartments, an organic garden, a recently renovated fitness center, and access to Raleigh’s Capital Area Greenway network.
STANDOUT SPEAKERS
Distinguished speakers visit campus for special events, lectures, and convocations. Guests have included Nobel Laureates, former leaders of the United States and Great Britain, U.S. Senators, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, and social and human rights activists.
UNIQUE ON-CAMPUS FACILITIES
Meredith is home to the Meredith Autism Program, an early intervention program for children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. It is one of the only programs of its kind in the U.S. to offer hands-on clinical course experience to undergraduates. Also available are the Ellen Brewer House, a five-star child care program that gives child development majors real-world experience, and the Human Performance Lab, where exercise and sports science students conduct research and learn to conduct fitness assessments.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Students have the opportunity to get involved on campus through more than 100 clubs and organizations, including service organizations, performing arts groups, and academic, social, and religious clubs. Meredith’s Student Government Association is one of the oldest in the southeast.
THE ARTS
Meredith hosts frequent lectures, juried student exhibitions, an active concert schedule, visiting artists, and exhibitions featuring professional artists. Students participate in theatre and dance performance troupes and a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles. Some are just for dance, music, and theatre majors, but many are open to all students.
RICH TRADITIONS
Meredith’s 128-year history is rich in traditions, which include the Honor Code Ceremony, Cornhuskin’, Crook Hunt, and Ring Dinner.
STRONG ATHLETICS
Meredith fields nine NCAA Division III teams (basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball). Field hockey is coming in 2020-21.
A member of the USA South Athletic Conference since 2007, Meredith’s Avenging Angels have claimed six tournament titles in lacrosse, two in volleyball, and one each in soccer and tennis; five regular season championships in soccer; four regular season championships in lacrosse, two in volleyball, and one in softball; and three cross country championships. Meredith blends intercollegiate athletics with a strong academic program. Athletes meet the same academic standards as other students and frequently earn weekly and all-conference recognition.

INTERNSHIPS
Most students at Meredith complete not one but several internships. The Office of Career Planning and faculty internship coordinators work with students to identify ideal internships, and the College’s strong connections with professionals in the community lead to a range of internship choices, often more than can be filled by students. Internships frequently turn into full-time jobs upon graduation.
SUCCESSFUL GRADUATES
Over the past five years, 92.2% of Meredith graduates were employed or pursuing graduate study within a few short months of graduation. Schools attended by recent graduates include Columbia University, Oxford University, UNC-Chapel Hill, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, and NC State Veterinary School. Meredith graduates work for top companies such as Credit Suisse, Lenovo, Red Hat, and SAS.
CAREER GUIDANCE
96% of seniors reported receiving career guidance from professors and advisers. Meredith hosts career fairs, connects students with mentors in their field, conducts mock interviews, and hosts résumé workshops and networking events.
