EXPERIENCE FROM THE START
Hands-on learning begins early at IU Indianapolis. Bridge Week introduces first-year students to the city, community engagement, and collaborative problem-solving, while project-based courses, service learning, internships, and capstones give students repeated opportunities to apply what they know in real settings.
AN URBAN RESEARCH CAMPUS
Undergraduates can take part in faculty research, community-based scholarship, and creative work across disciplines. FACULTY WHO CONNECT THEORY AND PRACTICE
IU Indianapolis faculty bring research, professional experience, and community partnerships into their teaching. Students learn in classrooms, laboratories, studios, clinics, and project teams where assignments often ask them to solve problems that resemble the work of the fields they hope to enter.
SUPPORT ACROSS THE STUDENT JOURNEY
Academic advising and school-based support help students make sense of a large university and connect coursework with internships, research, and career goals. Faculty mentorship becomes especially important in advanced projects and capstones, where students synthesize what they have learned into substantial work of their own.
DOWNTOWN IS PART OF CAMPUS
IU Indianapolis sits within walking distance of museums, hospitals, government offices, sports venues, businesses, restaurants, and cultural attractions. The city is not simply a backdrop; it shapes internships, service projects, research partnerships, and the everyday rhythm of student life.
COMMUNITY ON CAMPUS
Student organizations, campus events, recreation, leadership programs, and cultural communities give students many ways to connect with peers. A university setting with students from many backgrounds creates room for both large events and smaller communities centered on academic interests, identity, service, and professional goals.
INTERNSHIPS AS A CORE CAREER TOOL
IU Indianapolis strongly emphasizes internships as a bridge between academic study and full-time work. Career services across the university help students search for opportunities, use Handshake, prepare résumés and interviews, and connect with employers throughout Indianapolis and beyond.
A RECORD OF APPLIED LEARNING
Students can add approved internships, research, civic engagement, and other experiences to the Experiential and Applied Learning Record. That emphasis helps graduates leave with concrete examples of how they have used their knowledge, collaborated with others, and contributed in professional or community settings.
