PERSONAL ATTENTION
Every St. Ambrose student is valued as an individual. With the help of their academic advisor, each student seamlessly navigates their way through college in pursuit of their personal goals. Their advisors, who are professors in their own field of study, equip them with more than a four-year plan that gets them to graduation—they equip them with a four-year plan that makes the most of their major and ensures that they take the courses that truly interest them. In this way, students fulfill their degree requirements with courses that cater specifically to their goals.
As a St. Ambrose mechanical engineering major, Perla discovered a field that rewards her hungry mind—and her drive to explore caught the attention of her professors, who invited her to join a research project on climate-friendly biofuels. Then a service trip to Memphis opened her eyes to the problem of riverfront pollution and sparked a plan to seek solutions in graduate school.
“Curiosity means never being satisfied with what you know. It’s about knowing there’s always more to learn. St. Ambrose has elevated my expectations for myself and the skills I want to develop.” – Perla Hernandez ‘20

A WELCOME INTRODUCTION
Adjusting to college life can be a challenge, but the St. Ambrose learning communities make that transition happen more smoothly. Those who enroll are automatically put in touch with peers who, like them, are looking for a comfortable introduction to college. They enroll in a course alongside their community members and meet frequently outside of class to work together, help each other, and have fun in their new environment.
Beyond the learning community courses, freshmen are supported further through the New Student Seminar. This course sets time aside in each student’s schedule to learn about all the tools and resources that will be of use to them throughout college. They learn time-management and test-taking strategies as well as the locations of the St. Ambrose academic and support services. From their very first semester, new St. Ambrose students can feel confident about how they can navigate through this new era of their lives.
