CORE CURRICULUM AND GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Communication: It is vital that every student graduates as an effective communicator—across all platforms. UT Dallas requires all students to take a minimum of 6 credit hours in courses that strengthen oral, aural, written, and visual literacy skills. Courses within this category focus on areas of:

Mathematics: In order to graduate, every student must take one mathematics course (3 credits). Students will learn about the relationship between numbers and symbols, as well as the foundation of quantitative reasoning. Targeted skills for this areas include:

Life and Physical Sciences: Students must fulfill 6 credit hours in Life and Physical Science. Courses in this group allow students to explore new ideas and hypotheses through the scientific method. Skills within this group include:

Language, Philosophy, and Culture: Courses within this group focus on the human experience and how it is shaped by culture and society. Students explore how facets of the human condition transcend culture. Targeted skills include:

Creative Arts: Students must commit at least 3 credit hours to exploring the creative arts, and how art has impacted our lives. Through group discussion and analysis, students engage in conversations about artistic expression and appreciation. Skills gained:

American History: Students are required to take 6 credit hours of American History, with an optional emphasis on the state of Texas. Topics within these courses include: history of the Civil War, History of Texas, Themes and Ideas in American History, and Civil War and Reconstruction. Targeted skills include:

Government/Political Science: Students must satisfy 6 credit hours within this category. In these courses, students learn about the US constitution, as well as the constitutions of individual states. There is extra emphasis on Texas. Areas of focus:

Social and Behavioral Sciences: These courses explore interaction among humans, and how we learn from one another. Target skills include:

FACULTY LED/CUSTOMIZED PROGRAMS
UT Dallas allows select professors to lead study abroad experiences across a handful of locations. Currently there are five faculty led/customized programs available at UT Dallas. Programs include:
- Costa Rica Field Trip: Environmental Sustainability & Conservation
- Municipal Government Management in Seoul, Korea
- Planning/Providing Humanitarian Audiology Services in Developing Countries: Johannesburg, South Africa
- Regional Management Area Studies: Latin America
- Summer Study in Northern Italy
