Engaged Students

“My academic and student organization experiences at UMHB helped me develop my ability to lead others. I was given opportunities to explore and learn what servant leadership truly means from UMHB faculty and staff.” – Adrian, Class of 2012 [Employers have included Facebook, Amazon, and Netflix]

UMHB prepares students for lives of leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society. Academic excellence, personal attention, broad-based scholarship, and a Baptist vision for education have distinguished this Christ-centered learning community for more than 181 years.

In the health sciences, the Clinical Simulation Learning Center spans ~20,000 sq. ft. inside the Isabelle Rutherford Meyer Nursing Education Center, with skills labs, a standardized-patient suite, and a simulated hospital where scenarios are recorded and debriefed. Those rehearsals feed into clinical rotations with partners such as Baylor Scott & White Health in nearby Temple.

Beyond health fields, engineering majors tackle design projects aimed at the FE exam and industry practice, while business, computing, and the arts weave in client work, research, and practicums. Education students can now get hands-on learning experience by learning and working in the new Marek-Smith Education Center.

Study-abroad options—like Argentina, Belize, Greece, the United Kingdom, and more—help add a global perspective. UMHB strives to create an atmosphere where every student is an integral part of the learning community. The university provides numerous opportunities for each student to get involved and take a leadership role in activities and organizations tailored to his or her interests.

The one-on-one time with my professors has been so formative for my career goals, and UMHB has given me so many opportunities to grow spiritually and academically in various experiences.”
