College Highlights
ACADEMIC EXPLORERS
At UNC Greensboro, students immerse themselves in transformative academic experiences that combine rigorous learning with tenacious, intentional support. Learning is active, experiential, and connected to communities beyond the campus.
Many students—roughly 450 each year—take their learning abroad through exchange and faculty-led programs made possible by the university’s International Programs Center. UNCG scholars have trekked across the world in such locations as Australia, Japan, Russia, Italy, and so much more.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
The coursework for UNCG students often comes alive through undergraduate research. Annually, more than 700 undergraduates—including freshmen and sophomores—conduct faculty-sponsored research.
The campus boasts 187 spaces dedicated to hands-on learning as well as a low student-to-faculty ratio. Interdisciplinary research centers, such as the Center for Community-Engaged Design, allow for students to play an active role in community-engaged research.
Additionally, the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, & Creativity Office oversees a variety of developmental opportunities and sponsors the annual Carolyn & Norwood Thomas Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo. This expo is a campus-wide celebration of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities. All UNCG students engaged in faculty-mentored scholarly inquiry are encouraged to participate. Students are eligible to compete for program recognition, which even includes monetary awards.
GEC
All UNCG students participate in the General Education Program, commonly known as GEC. This common curriculum equips students with a broad knowledge of a variety of different academic fields beyond their chosen major. The combination of a specialized major with GEC prepares graduates to be lifelong learners, ethical and independent decision makers, creative thinkers, strong communicators, and responsible citizens.

FIRST-CLASS FACULTY, FIRST-CLASS FACILITIES
UNC Greensboro faculty embody what it means to be a teacher-scholar. They’re mentors who are tenaciously devoted to the success of their students, and they’re nationally and internationally recognized researchers in their respective fields.
Excellent teaching is combined with the university’s state-of-the-art facilities—the SELF Design Studio in the School of Education, the newly renovated studios in the School of Dance, the nursing simulation labs with SimMom technology, and more—to prepare students for their future endeavors.
SHARED EXPERIENCES
Common experiences in the classroom help new students transition to the university. Prior to their first semester at UNCG, students begin their academic journey by reading a book that has been intentionally selected by faculty. Throughout the academic year, this book is integrated into the students’ curricular and co-curricular learning experiences alike. The redesigned First-Year Experience 101, a two credit-hour seminar, connects new students to campus resources and helps them develop the skills essential for academic success.
Beyond the first year, students across disciplines engage in collaborative projects with their peers, often producing and presenting original work. For example, in RCO 214: Science Fiction (a residential college course), students work together to lay out, edit, and publish a magazine that features original, student-written pieces of science fiction.
EXCELLENCE IN WRITING
Communication is crucial regardless of major, and the university’s required writing-intensive courses help students hone their written skills through faculty feedback and revision. In these courses, writing is used to learn disciplinary content—that is, students write specifically about the field they’re pursuing, allowing them to learn how to communicate the ideas that are pertinent to their own career path. Consultants at the UNCG Writing Center are available to meet one-on-one with students and provide additional help and feedback.

LIVING AND LEARNING
UNC Greensboro is home to a rich array of students within a welcoming campus—a place in which to belong, thrive, and achieve their best, each in their own way.
For some, that means an enriched academic experience through the university’s eight living-learning communities, all of which are themed around specific topics, including foreign languages, social justice, Greek life, and wellness. Students can also join one of three residential colleges in which they can live and take classes alongside their peers, or they can challenge themselves and support one another in the Lloyd International Honors College.
TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
Student life exudes with energy on UNC Greensboro’s campus. Many get involved by leading one of the university’s more than 250 student organizations, cheering on the Spartans at the Greensboro Coliseum, and participating in the campus traditions that distinguish the UNCG experience (like leaving an apple at the Minerva statue for good luck on an exam).
Beyond campus, the impact of the university motto, “Service,” is seen throughout the community, with students contributing approximately 1 million community service hours annually. Through the Office of Leadership and Service-Learning, students have the opportunity to give back to the causes that mean the most to them.
SCHOOL LOCATION
As the state’s third-largest city, Greensboro is located in the heart of North Carolina, just three hours from the beach and two hours from the mountains. The city boasts more than 90 miles of greenways and trails, a revitalized downtown just minutes away from the UNC Greensboro campus, a thriving arts scene, and a growing international community.
ATHLETICS
UNC Greensboro’s Division I athletic teams compete in the Southern Conference.
The university mascot is the Spartan, and the colors are blue and gold. To learn more about UNCG Athletics, visit uncgspartans.com.

ALUMNI SUCCESS
UNC Greensboro graduates range from public school teachers in the local community to actors gracing the stage on Broadway.
They’re business leaders, health care professionals, designers, and counselors. Some notable alumni include Olympian Paul Chelimo, Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, and city councilman Justin Outling.
ON-CAMPUS CAREER PREPARATION
Students prepare for their future careers with help from UNCG’s Career Services Center, which hosts career fairs and provides career coaching, networking opportunities, and assistance in crafting the perfect résumé.
Many academic departments also bulk up students’ curricula with an array of senior capstone courses, practica, and portfolio development. Such high-level work is extraordinarily valuable in synthesizing, communicating, and presenting professional work.
EXPERIENCE FOR ACHIEVEMENT
UNCG offers a rich array of opportunities outside of the classroom to prepare for success beyond the university.
The Bryan School of Business and Economics maintains relationships with local businesses and corporations to foster employer connections and facilitate internships. And students in the Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies present their work in an annual fashion show in downtown Greensboro.
Furthermore, students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts regularly perform in professional capacities and display their work in the Greensboro community and beyond. School of Theatre seniors participate in the annual Industry Showcase in New York City, performing for top producers, agents, and casting directors while networking with successful alumni in the industry.
