LeTourneau University is a private, interdenominational Christian university that was founded in 1946. Named for its founder, R.G. LeTourneau, the university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. LeTourneau offers more than 140 graduate and undergraduate programs in aviation, engineering, education, business, psychology and counseling, arts and sciences, nursing, and theology and vocation. Students enjoy the opportunity to take classes in person, online, or in a dual credit format.

HOLISTIC ENGAGEMENT
LeTourneau University strives to engage students emotionally, behaviorally and cognitively. Emotional engagement is when students establish eye contact as they receive instructions, greet the instructor with a genuine smile when they walk into the classroom, and enjoy and trust the instructor. This kind of engagement is possible and present thanks to LeTourneau’s size and faculty-to-student ratio. The instructors know their students by name, and the students truly trust their instructors. Faculty members invite students to take an active role in their learning and come alongside them to help them succeed.

Behavioral engagement is seen when students come to class prepared, listen when the lesson is being presented, and respond accordingly.

Cognitive engagement is reflected in the classroom when students ask in-depth questions that go beyond the material presented and make connections to other ideas. Instructors at LeTourneau challenge students to think outside of the box.

Great teaching is evident in the classrooms at LeTourneau through its knowledgeable and experienced faculty. Professors are knowledgeable of the subject matter, flexible, able to communicate clearly, enthusiastic, prepared, and organized. Since many faculty members have real-world industry and/or missions experience, all of them naturally present a stimulating style of teaching.

FIRST-YEAR EXPERIENCE
Cornerstones is a first-year experience offered to LeTourneau students. Students are grouped according to concentration or athletic team and learn how to explore success at LETU spiritually, academically, and relationally. Faculty members guide students in this class through daily devotionals, success coaching, critical thinking activities, and the application of their learning through writing and roleplaying. These students are also paired with a peer advisor throughout the year to help them be successful.

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
Many courses include significant collaborative projects. Students participating in business courses may work to create full business plans, while engineering students participate on Senior design teams. As a part of those design teams, engineering students are given the opportunity to work with students from other engineering disciplines as well as students across campus to design and create inventions that can impact the world. LeTourneau’s theology students work together as a part of the “Loving Longview” class to engage with and make an impact in the Longview community.

STRONG WRITING SKILLS
Writing is emphasized across the curriculum and encouraged in all courses. The LeTourneau University Writing Center is available for all students, and the director, assistant director, and student interns are available to assist in writing.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
The Office of Spiritual Life at LeTourneau University offers a wealth of opportunities for students to engage in Christian spiritual formation. The centerpiece is the university Chapel program. Two to three times a week, students, faculty, and staff gather together for uplifting worship and inspiring local, national, and international speakers. Along with the robust Chapels, students have multiple opportunities to plug into small groups for Bible study and prayer. These include Life Groups, which are led by faculty and staff, and dorm floor devotionals led by student spiritual life assistants.

There are also numerous ways for students to engage in campus and community service through LeTourneau Student Ministries. This student-led group sponsors campus prayer and worship events, local service projects in the Longview community, and Spring Break Outreach trips to other parts of the United States and Mexico. At LeTourneau, hands-on education is encouraged campus wide. This value is carried over to spiritual formation as students serve, worship, and engage in community.

SCHOOL LOCATION
LeTourneau University is located in Longview, Texas. Longview is situated on Interstate 20 about two hours east of Dallas and one hour west of Shreveport. Nestled in the pineywoods of East Texas, Longview boasts many walking trails and opportunities for outdoor adventures. Longview is home to the annual Great Texas Balloon Race at East Texas Regional Airport. Located on LETU’s campus, the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center is the heart of performing arts in Longview. It serves as the home of the Longview Ballet Theater and the Longview Symphony, hosting dozens of world-famous acts and artists throughout the year.

ATHLETICS
LeTourneau University athletics sponsors 17 NCAA Division III sports. The YellowJackets compete in the American Southwest Conference. LETU’s sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, and baseball.

While competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association, the YellowJackets women’s basketball team won national championships in 1997 and 1998. LETU has won six ASC Championships since becoming a member of NCAA Division III. The YellowJackets boast seven National Player of the Year honors, two National Coach of the Year awards, and 92 All-Americans in the school’s history.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
At LeTourneau University, engineering design and project-based learning is implemented throughout the entire curriculum. During the senior year, engineering students participate in a year-long capstone project as part of a multidisciplinary team. LETU students complete a wide variety of projects that involve collegiate competition, applied research, industry skills, and humanitarian service. These team projects embody the learn-by-doing philosophy for which LETU is known.
