UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
The Office of Undergraduate Research is committed to making high-quality research opportunities available to all students so that they may prepare for their future professional and academic endeavors. With funding provided to student researchers and faculty members, research is accessible to all students in all disciplines. Research opportunities extend beyond individual projects; the Undergraduate Research Club allows students to participate in team-based research projects as well.
Students complete their research journeys by presenting at regional and national conferences. Every year, they are invited to present their scholarly work at The Symposium of Student Scholars. Whether they take the form of an excerpt from a written piece, a performance of new music, innovative business proposals, or scientific research papers, the academic achievements of KSU students span multiple disciplines and mediums.
FIRST-YEAR SCHOLARS PROGRAM
KSU’s First-Year Scholars Program is a new campus initiative designed to introduce students to the dynamic experience of research as soon as they start college. Under guidance from faculty mentors, the first-year participants can explore their choice of a variety of topics. With projects available across multiple disciplines, students are encouraged to apply even if their topic of interest is outside their major.
EDUCATION ABROAD
Kennesaw State offers more than 50 faculty-led study abroad programs in over 40 countries.
Students can live and learn in a different country through exciting exchange programs and international internships. The Education Abroad Office is committed to reducing financial and academic barriers to make these life changing opportunities available to all students.
Exchange Programs: KSU is proud to partner with institutions around the world to offer reciprocal exchange programs. Students can study at a partner institution abroad while a student from that institution studies at KSU. Students participating in these exchange programs pay KSU tuition and fees.
Internships Abroad: International internships are a unique opportunity for students to take their experience to the next level. Those who intern abroad are immersed academically, professionally, and culturally in environments that will benefit their personal and professional future.
Global Engagement Certification: This initiative, designed by KSU faculty, recognizes student achievements in global learning. The GEC is a formal acknowledgement of global coursework, education abroad, and cross-cultural experiences altogether demonstrating a student’s global competencies to potential employers and graduate programs.

FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR
The First-Year Seminar (FYS) supports the important transition to college through student-centered academics, dedicated faculty, leadership opportunities, and community partnerships. Throughout their first year, students cultivate the academic and social skills needed to thrive on a college campus. Seminars are limited to 25 students to foster closer relationships with peers and professors.
LEARNING COMMUNITIES
KSU’s learning communities allow students to engage more deeply with what they’re learning as well as with whom they’re learning. In groups of 20-25 students each, participants take two or more academic courses that are linked by a common theme. With this strong group of peers, students reap multiple benefits such as higher grades, a deeper connection to the university, and longer-lasting relationships with friends and mentors.
FIRST-GEN KSU
Kennesaw State is committed to making success accessible for all populations, especially those that are typically underserved. With that goal in mind, The Department of First-Year and Transition Studies is proud to support the first-generation student population. Students who are the first in their family on the path to a four-year degree typically benefit from a network of faculty, staff, and peer mentors. First-Gen KSU helps these students establish a solid foundation for success with such exciting, supportive components as the Friends of First-Gen mentor program and the First-Gen Owls Learning Community.
