Pathways invites first year students to voluntarily jump start their college experience before the entire student body arrives on campus. By coming to campus three days earlier than the traditional move-in day, students are given the opportunity to make new friends, engage in new experiences, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and create lifetime memories.
There are four distinct Pathways programs tailored to different interests students may have when entering college. The programs are Adventure Challenge, Arts Encounter, Urban Launch and
The ALANA is Leadership program.
The Adventure Challenge program includes opportunities to engage in low and high ropes course activities, canoeing, raft building, indoor rock climbing, swimming, hiking and other character building team experiences. The adventures offered to first year students take place on beautiful Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, New York. The experiences students encounter not only build character but offer multi-faceted challenges, invite individual and group problem solving, communication, and trust building exercises.
The Arts Encounter introduces students to the artistic and musical riches of New York's Capital Region that they will soon be a part of. Through this program students will find others who share similar interests in the arts and thus be given the opportunity to forge friendships before the official start of the school year. Students involved in this program are either skilled in art or music or are just students that simply enjoy participating in the arts. Students involved in this program take advantage of opportunities to create art and music as well as enjoy the many cultural treasures of the area.
The Urban Launch program offers an immersion experience for a select group of first year students eager to explore the City of Albany through volunteer service and urban awareness. Interested students are offered the chance to get to know the "service landscape" just off of the Saint Rose campus. Students involved also confront moral and ethical issues by engaging the under-served, under-represented and underprivileged persons in the Albany area. Partners in this program include Habitat for Humanity, Saint Anne's Institute for Girls, city homeless shelters, the State Capital and more.
ALANA is Leadership serves the needs of under-represented students of color on the campus of The College of Saint Rose. Since the program's inception its goal has been to acknowledge and foster diversity awareness and inclusion in Saint Rose's vibrant community while promoting the success of students in their leadership, academic and professional endeavors. Students kick off the experience with outdoor adventure activities, academic preparedness workshops and fun social events. Involved students are paired with an upper-classman who serves as their guide while the new students navigate through their first weeks on campus and beyond.
