Rivier College Success Story: Christine Cyr

by Rivier University

Coming out of high school, Christine Cyr knew she wanted a small college. Once she visited Rivier, her search was over. Rivier has the close community she wanted. “Professors know your name,” she says. “When they see me outside of class, they’ll say, ‘Hi, Christine, how are you? Are you working on the paper that’s due on Wednesday?’”

In her job as an Admissions Ambassador, Christine shares her enthusiasm for the College with prospective students. She also runs cross country for River, but last year, as Rivier was launching a women’s lacrosse program, her coach convinced her to participate. She had to learn the game. “Toward the end of the season I ended up playing a lot and did some good things on the field,” she says.

In addition to learning a new sport and a new language (Chinese) at Rivier, Cyr has developed a career plan. “I thought that I wanted to be a teacher, but I wasn’t sure,” she says. Through Rivier’s Campus to Career course, she took tests and surveys to help her determine suitable careers. “I walked out of the class knowing I wanted to become a teacher,” says Cyr, a Social Studies Education major.
