Moravian College is a private, coeducational, broad-based liberal arts college in historic Bethlehem, Pa. that traces its origins to 1742, the sixth oldest college in the nation.
Long before 1776, Moravian College stood for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As the sixth-oldest college in America, the College believes everyone is born with an innate love of learning. Moravian's mission is to set it free.
To every student of every circumstance, Moravian promises the power of the liberal arts, a whole wide world of experience, and a deeper enjoyment of life. Moravian challenges students to pursue them all with passion. Live. Learn. Enjoy.
Moravian students start early with hands-on learning-in the first year-to extend their learning beyond the classroom. They know that setting goals and practicing skills is key to success. Working alongside their professors on research projects, participating in internships across the nation, and studying in countries around the globe, they gain valuable, real experience.
Moravian students have multiple opportunities for research experience. In the Honors Program, they may devote two semesters to an in-depth project. Through SOAR (Student Opportunities for Academic Research), students can receive stipends, travel allowances, and reimbursement for expenses connected with scholarly or creative work advised by faculty members. And through independent research with senior faculty members, students increase their eligibility for postgraduate scholarships and admission to competitive graduate programs. Internship opportunities afford students a combination of on-the-job experience and academic credit. Moravian's Internship Liaison Program facilitates connections with companies offering internships-from the Guggenheim Museum to MTV.
The College's emphasis on hands-on learning is intended to produce leaders-of organizations, of social change, and of the global community. In addition, the Center for Leadership and Service makes leadership a topic of discussion on campus through programs, guest speakers, and conferences.
The Community Service Center connects the campus community with the needs of the greater Lehigh Valley. Among the programs available are mentoring and tutoring programs, the America Reads literacy program, annual domestic and international service trips accompanied by faculty members, and the 1742 Experience, which provides students with hands-on service and leadership opportunities in the Bethlehem area.
Moravian faculty do more than lecture; they also collaborate on research, mentor students during their academic journey, keep up with them after graduation-and, in countless ways, inspire them to excel. Small classes and a low student faculty ratio make it easy to create a dialogue with faculty members, who get to know students' strengths and interests and make a genuine, personal difference in their lives-as both advisors and mentors.
Students are challenged by programs that develop from the faculty's innovative teaching, the intellectual relationships between faculty and students, and opportunities for personalized learning. Moravian offers more than 50 majors and courses of study, but students are not confined to a narrow field of study. Nor are they required to take unrelated courses in scattered disciplines. Instead, Moravian offers Learning in Common, sets of courses in multidisciplinary clusters designed to complement one another and help students make connections among fields, giving them a broad perspective. Combined with Moravian's strong majors-and flexibility in constructing them-students create academic programs that help them compete in the modern world's economic and cultural climates.
Students who want to pursue an academic program not offered through the traditional curriculum may apply to Moravian's Add-Venture program. Designed for students wishing to concentrate in multiple academic areas or who have an extensive background in the liberal arts, the program provides maximum freedom in choosing a course of study. Each student works with a faculty mentor to design a program that supports his or her educational goals. Students may also work with faculty advisors to construct interdepartmental majors and individually designed majors within the departmental framework.
Moravian purposefully nurtures students in an environment that promotes a deeper enjoyment of life. On Moravian's two beautiful campuses-the Main Street Campus and the Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus on Church Street-students learn and grow in a safe and fun environment. With high levels of participation in activities from athletics to performing arts, they enjoy the College's residential community in historic Bethlehem, Pa. The College's rich history and long tradition's such as Christmas Vespers in Central Moravian Church enliven the spirit and bring long-lasting joy among students, alumni, and friends.
Moravian believes in the value of educational experience outside the classroom as a means of developing the whole person. In Moravian's residential environment, students find opportunities for an active social life, develop extracurricular interests, pursue competitive and recreational athletics, and participate in volunteer service.
At Moravian, students know just about everyone-students, faculty, staff. It's a close, friendly community. And it's easy to connect and be involved on campus; there are more than 80 student clubs and activities to help students pursue their passions outside of the classroom. Nothing makes Moravian students happier than getting together with a bunch of friends to plan an event, take the stage with the choir, volunteer in the community, or hop on the bus for an MC-sponsored road trip to New York. The College believes in the importance of students doing what they love with their friends who share their passions.
Moravian students enjoy calling Bethlehem home during their college experience. It's filled with historic, pre-colonial\ buildings (some right on campus),\ fun shops, restaurants, and festivals and cultural events (including the famous Musikfest). And for those pursuits expand beyond the city limits, Moravian is just an hour from Philadelphia and the Poconos, 90 minutes from New York City, and 3 hours from Washington, DC.
During of the four years a student attends Moravian, students benefit from the College's innovative In Focus programming that promotes an in-depth examination of complex issues from multidisciplinary perspectives. The College community engages in analysis and activism regarding important challenges facing human beings and the world in the 21st century: poverty and inequality, sustainability, health care, and war and peace. Each year, academic and co-curricular activities center on one of these four challenges. Through grappling with complex problems, and examining them from several different perspectives Moravian's graduates are better prepared to contribute to a just society and a vibrant democracy.
Throughout their years at Moravian, students work with advisors who help them clarify their goals and build an academic program that supports those goals. Students are continually encouraged in their efforts to face their futures well prepared, not just through an understanding of an academic field, but also through an understanding of themselves, their aspirations, and their values.
In today's challenging and highly competitive work environment, college graduates need more than a college degree to succeed in the world. Students today require in-depth knowledge of their subject, real-world experience, and leadership and social skills. One college, above all, puts students first: Moravian College is committed to providing students with the well-rounded, strong foundation they need to succeed.
With more than 250 years of experience in providing equal access to education for all, Moravian partners with students to build a strong foundation for their personal and professional future. Moravian students are challenged to reach their full potential as individuals while they benefit from the College's supportive learning community. Students pursue their intellectual passions as the live, learn, and enjoy all that Moravian has to offer.
Moravian challenges students with a strong, personalized academic major. Students grow intellectually from programs that develop from the faculty's innovative teaching, from the intellectual relationships between faculty and students, and from the broad range of opportunities for personalized learning.
At Moravian, students also experience hands-on learning. They participate in collaborative research and scholarship such as the SOAR and Honors programs, internships, work-study, leadership, and community service opportunities.
Students live and learn in an environment that promotes the development of a deeper enjoyment of life. They develop personally through co-curricular activities such as athletics and recreation, music, the arts, and an active social life.
Students leave Moravian with the skills, knowledge, and support necessary to more deeply enjoy life, work, and their role in the world.
Moravian's Career Center assists students in their pursuit of internships, summer opportunities, graduate school, and employment after graduation. The Center offers career guidance, networking opportunities, resume writing and interviewing workshops, and more, available to all students. And it's working…more than 90 percent of Moravian graduates are employed full time or enrolled in graduate or professional schools within six months of graduation.

Moravian is committed to keeping college affordable for its students and their families. More than 90% of Moravian students receive financial aid directly from the college totaling more than $20 million each year. Moravian College offers a number of merit scholarships for which students are automatically considered when they apply for admission.
Merit scholarships are awarded without regard to financial need. They recognize the outstanding academics, achievements, talents, and potential of recipients. This is where student's hard work in high school pays off. Grades, class rank, SAT scores, and involvement are all key to receiving a merit scholarship. In awarding Moravian scholarships, the College gives primary consideration to those students with the potential to contribute academic and other talents to the College community.
There are three main types of financial aid: grants and scholarships (which do not need to be paid back); loans (which are paid back over time, starting after students graduate); and work study (on-campus jobs for which students receive a paycheck). Financial aid comes from several sources: institutional (Moravian College Grants); governmental (Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, Pennsylvania State Grants, etc.) ; and private (e.g. , endowed and restricted scholarships awarded through Moravian College or by foundations).
Financial aid may only be applied to tuition, fees, books, room, and board, unless a specific exception has been made.
To be considered for financial aid, students must apply and be accepted to Moravian and complete both the College application for financial aid and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA ). Students apply for financial aid every year.
The sooner students apply, the better- priority is given to those who complete admission and financial aid applications are received by February 15. All applications must be completed by April 15. The FAFSA is required to be considered for federal and state sources of financial aid. The application is available starting January 1 at fafsa.ed.gov. The family's most recent year's federal tax returns to complete the FAFSA .
The Moravian College financial aid application can be found online at moravian.edu/financial aid. Students may also mail or fax a paper copy to the Financial Aid Office. Students may also be asked to submit copies of their parents' most recent federal tax returns to the Financial Aid Office.
These applications will determine demonstrated need-the difference between the cost of tuition, room/board, and other expenses and the amount the family can contribute.
Residents of Pennsylvania who file a FAFSA by May 1 will be considered for a Pennsylvania State Grant. Residents of other states are encouraged to refer to the FAFSA application or contact the student's state Department of Higher Education for state grant information. Early Decision candidates: The Admissions Committee responds to Early Decision candidates beginning on December 15. Please submit the Financial Aid Early Estimate form if students wish to receive a preliminary award notice.
