The Board of Trustees at Westminster College announced today that Dr. Brian L. Levin-Stankevich, chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been named as the college’s 17th president. Levin-Stankevich will succeed Michael Bassis who will retire July 15, 2012 after a 10-year tenure as president.
The appointment concludes a search launched in September 2011, led by a 14-member Presidential Search Committee. The committee, assisted by the search firm Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, recommended Levin-Stankevich to the Westminster Board of Trustees from among more than 60 applicants. The Board voted unanimously to appoint Levin-Stankevich.
“We are extremely pleased to have attracted a top caliber institutional leader to Westminster College,” said Bassis. “Brian brings strong academic and administrative experience to the position. I’m confident he will build on Westminster’s longstanding record of success.”
Dr. Brian L. Levin-Stankevich has been the chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since 2006. During his tenure, he initiated and led a broadly based strategic planning process and successfully moved new academic programs through the University of Wisconsin system. He is the recipient of the 2011 President’s Award (NASPA) and the 2006 Regents Teaching Excellence Department Award. Prior to his current position, he was interim president of Eastern Washington University. Dr. Levin-Stankevich holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Hamilton College and a Ph.D. from SUNY.

During the search process, open forums were conducted throughout campus with various college constituencies.

Levin-Stankevich will join Westminster on July 15, 2012, with inaugural celebrations planned for October of 2012.
